Intel’s Core-X series made a lot of buzz last
week with their X299 platform and Core i9 processors. So, it was likely
for overclockers around the globe to push the CPUs to their limits. One such
attempt was made by Gigabytes along with a team of renowned overclocker led by
Hi-Cookie.
"In
order to push past the 7.5GHz barrier, the team of overclockers employed liquid
helium to drop temperatures at low -250C . Gigabyte now dominates the
world record in 3DMark03, 3DMark06, and Aquamark," Gigabyte boasted in a
press release. "The 3DMark06 world record was broken not once but twice
over the past week, using different hardware configurations, subsequently
making one of those scores a global first."
3D Mark is a computer
benchmarking tool created and developed by Futuremark
Corporation to determine the performance of a computer's 3D
graphic rendering and CPU workload processing capabilities.
The
rest of the system consisted of a Gigabyte X299-SOC Champion motherboard, 16GB
of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 memory running at 4333MHz and a Corsair AX1500i power
supply.
Of
course, these super-cooled overclocks are all well and good, but it’ll be more
interesting to see how these new Intel models perform when it comes to the sort
of turbocharging the average PC owner will apply (i.e. with air cooling, or
perhaps water).
It will be intresting how long records last . There is much that we do not know about the performance of the upcoming X series CPUs but these numbers should give us an idea.
