The Chip size decreases day to day but
the storage increases day by day. It’s unbelievable about peta byte storage we
are able to download 300,000 movies. Intel is taking us a step
closer to the end of the hard disk drive data center era with new form factor of SSD.
"The new
'ruler' form factor, so-called for its long, skinny shape, shifts storage
from the normal storage device we use PCs and Server is 2.5”
and 3.5” and the 3.5” form-factors are not always optimal for SSDs in terms of
storage density, cooling, and other aspects. As Intel puts it, the ruler
form-factor “delivers the most storage capacity for a server, with the lowest
required cooling and power needs”.

The new drives,
with their slimmed-down shapes, are designed for server racks, where Intel says
they’ll be able to massively increase the amount of storage on hand. This new
device handles 1 petabyte (1,000 terabytes) of storage in a single 1U server
rack. It can download 300,000 HD movies in 70 years of non-stop entertainment.
According to
Intel, "Ruler" SSDs based on 3D NAND SSDs and Optane SSDs will be
released "in the near future.
Dual Port Intel
Optane SSDs and Intel 3D NAND SSDs are designed to replace SAS SSDs and HDDs
and, with new storage technologies, deliver more IOPS, more bandwidth and lower
latency than SAS SSDs. Dual port Intel SSD DC D4500, D4502 and D4600 Series are
due for release in Q3 this year.
